German royalty abounds
The monarchy may have disappeared in Germany although there are plenty of ‘crowned heads’ at work. The wine regions have their own wine queens along with a couple of princesses. If in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse on October 10 you will catch the grand parade and the crowning of Germany’s wine queen for 2008. Throughout the year there’s also an onion queen, a herb queen, an apple queen and an asparagus queen. Is nothing sacred?
