EarlyBird flight Deals to Europe for 2027 are taking off already - Singapore Airlines was first cab off the rank closely followed by Virgin Australia/Qatar. 

The Virgin sale ends on October 30. Remember to check the validity dates for travel. Singapore Airlines was recently named World's Best Airline by Skytrax for the sixth time. SQ deals are available until 29 October 2026. Fares to London for instance are priced from $1824 ex Adelaide.

QANTAS has announced that non-stop Australia to NYC flights are set to launch. The history-making direct route from Sydney will transform travel to the Big Apple — cutting flight times and introducing a dedicated Wellbeing Zone onboard. Expected to commence in mid-2028,  the flights are currently scheduled to go on sale in August next year.

EUROCAR says get your car sorted early and save up to 20%  on rentals right through to March 31. Book by October 16,  2026.

SO HOW GOOD WAS YOUR TRIP? 
Our flight to Adelaide from Singapore was suddenly not available in business class - we had hours to wait in terminal 3. So, I booked the Ambassador Transit Lounge for a stay plus shower. Singapore's Changi is the best airport in the world for a number of reasons - a main one is that passengers in transit have huge areas where they can relax in real comfort away from crowds using free internet and if necessary charge up phones or whatever. Food halls are always nearby. As for the transit lounge - it is an insult to everything Changi stands for - it is too small, grubby, overcrowded and poorly air conditioned. We took one look and decided to find a comfy spot outside - which is my advice to anyone thinking about paying for this facility.

Check US entry, registration, transit and exit requirements very carefully.

SO HOW GOOD WAS THE TRIP?
Mick Symons had been exploring South Africa. “Returned from South Africa last night. Long flight. It was a trip we will remember. We used luxury escapes. This company provides excellent accommodation and assistance. We went to Cape Town, then Blue Train to Johannesburg. Overnight there and then onto two game parks. The animals were magnificent." Mick says the Blue Train is well overdue for renovation.

Travel expert Margaret Watson travelled on The Ghan from Adelaide to Darwin:
"Resting up in Darwin after two pretty sleepless nights on The Ghan in a pokey Gold Single cabin. Close to the toilets but noisy and pretty hard to operate in. Only choice for a Solo unless you want to pay double. However the food was really good, the staff wonderful - mostly hospitality students I think - bar and lounge built to make socialising easy and dining car filled in shifts.  Excursions were a bit underwhelming - the sunrise that didn’t happen, the Motor Transport Museum was billed as The Ghan Museum excursion but was only a minor part - petrol heads would have loved all those big trucks and the mechanics of it all, otherwise a big messy yard really;  and the cruise to Nitmiluk Gorge. with a glimpse of Katherine Gorge. If you’ve been to the Kimberley this was pleasant but you knew you’d seen much better.  Would I do it again? Probably not, it’s an iconic Australian ‘once-a’ I think. I had no trouble with kilometres of landscape passing by at all. It changed enough to be interesting. Sparse turned to saltbush turned to trees turned to red turned to termite mounds. Wildlife was elusive. Gold Premium had Twin Rooms prob similar to Gold Twin, all with ensuites, another bar lounge and dining car with apparently one more course - we had trouble with 3 x 3 times a day! The wines were all South Australian and the reds seemed heavy even the Pinot - I had to change to a Reschke Pinot Gris! I’m really glad I did it. And I guess it could have cost me a fortune as a solo in an upgraded cabin type for more room, but it didn’t, so I’m grateful for that. There was a hairdryer. The wifi was useless."

CREDIT CARDS: 
From October, CBA customers will need to convert 25% more points to Velocity just to receive the same amount of Velocity points as they do today. On top of that, the earning rates on the cards are also being tilted downwards. Other banks are also downgrading points.
